Tasting Notes: The “La Barry” has delicate elderflower fruit with underlying grassier tones, but is unthreatening enough to keep coming back for another glass. Long lasting and substantial on the palate, it is not just a pool wine but pairs well with food. As it ages mineral and flinty flavours come to the fore, so don’t drink all of it too young

Story of Wine: Pristine fruit from our Elgin vineyards was transported in a refrigerated truck to our winery and every measure imaginable was employed to ensure minimal oxidation and in doing so ensure purity of fruit flavours. About one quarter of the grapes were given 24 hours’ skin contact, a portion crushed and pressed immediately and a small batch was whole-bunch pressed. The juice was tank fermented in two lots by different yeasts to develop ‘typically’ Sauvignon-fruit flavours. As passionate as we are about Sauvignon Blanc, experience has taught us that despite natural fermentations producing complex and interesting wines, this is not always beneficial to Sauvignon Blanc. Lees contact of eight months after fermentation ensures richness and texture on the midpalate. The wine was bottled in December 2018

Pairing: Perfect as aperitif, or match with delicate dishes like fresh seafood salads, oysters and even tuna tartare with a very subtle wasabi sauce.

Tasting Notes: Medium structure with a rich, full-bodied yet elegant mid-palate and a clean fresh finish

Story of Wine: Old, unirrigated bushvines planted on deep, rich Hutton soils at 280m above sea level on south-facing slopes yield smaller volumes (5 – 6 tons/ha) of intensely concentrated fruit. The vineyard canopy is managed to ensure minimal direct sunlight exposure of the bunches and as such enhance the finer, elegant nuances of our Printer’s Ink Pinotage. Our unobstructed proximity to False Bay allows for cooling afternoon sea breezes which enable a slower ripening period and improved evolution of flavor in the bunches

Pairing: Enjoy with ostrich tartare, venison kebabs on rooibos noodles and surprisingly, when slightly chilled, with sushi or seared tuna

Tasting Notes: Our Meinert Sauvignon Blanc certainly speaks to the more serious side of Sauvignon Blanc while having enough youthful charm to appease all palates at every occasion. Whether as the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to a gastronomic experience, our Sauvignon Blanc is most certainly a wine to have in your cellar year-round. Enjoyable in its youth, this wine will further develop under careful cellaring conditions for years to come

Story of Wine: After careful selection and hand harvesting, our Sauvignon Blanc fruit from vineyards in Elgin was transported by means of refrigerated truck to our winery and further cooled overnight in our cold room to 5°C. About a third of the total harvest underwent 12 hours’ skin contact to enhance the development of unique Sauvignon Blanc characteristics. The juice was tank fermented in two lots by different yeast strains to enhance complex fruit aromatics. Lees contact for a period of six months after fermentation adds texture and richness on the midpalate and finish. The wine was bottled in November 2018. A portion of the Semillon, which was fermented and matured in old barriques adding depth and richness, was included in the blend; the total Semillon component amounting to 12.5%.

Tasting Notes: As our vines mature with every passing vintage so the wines become richer and more textured without the fear of clumsy, dull fruit expression. Our focus on ‘turbo charged’ Merlot’s that bridge the gap between the New and Old Worlds is still very much the focal point. 

Story of Wine: Fermented with natural yeasts and made in classic, minimal interventionist manner with no extended skin maceration. All the components were vinified separately and matured for 18 months in a selection of first, second, third and fourth fill French oak barrels and racked at intervals as necessary

Pairing: Ideal to enjoy with game birds like quail, guinea fowl and duck. Lamb suits the wine’s herbal touches.

Tasting Notes: With the grapes hanging on the vine late into the harvest season, the tannins are always supple and silky, supported by an elegant fruit profile of blueberry, blackberry, plums and white pepper tones

Story of Wine: Our Syrah grapes are always the last come into the cellar and after careful hand harvesting the fruit is transported by means of refrigerated truck to our cellar in Devon Valley.  A portion of the fruit is whole-bunch fermented where whole bunches are placed into stainless steel red wine fermenters and covered with de-stemmed and partially crushed berries. The balance is fermented traditionally following careful destemming and berry sorting. The individual components are matured for 12 months prior to bottling in a combination of seasoned barrels and Flexcube tanks.

Pairing: pairs superbly with venison carpaccio and hearty beef steaks

Tasting Notes : A lovely fresh floral, lime, spanspek and slightly flinty nose, on palate the sugar and acid are well matched ensuring linearity and purity of fruit. Lees contact has enhanced the texture balancing the crisp, fruity finish. It’s an uncomplicated pleasure, especially in summer.

Tasting Notes: The nose displays red berries, typical Cabernet herbs, spicy toasty oak and tobacco. Mouth filling but soft on entry, lingers gently and long on the finish. 

Story of Wine: Fermented with natural yeasts, made in classic low intervention manner, no extended skin maceration. Aged for 24 months in new (15%), second and third fill French Oak barrels. In keeping with a naturalist approach to winemaking, this wine is lightly filtered prior bottling in the spring of 2019 and as such a harmless sediment may develop over time

Pairing: Should match well with Tuscan style veal, wild boar or warthog with truffled mash and of course a well-aged piece of beef like prime rib, especially with reduced rich sauces. Or venison – we enjoyed it with eland
